EYFS Review published
Dame Clare Tickell's government-commissioned EYFS Review was published today. Dame Clare has recommended reducing the number of early learning goals from 69 to 17 and reducing the bureaucracy.
She also recommends that the new EYFS should be more in line with what children are learning at the age of five in school, and should build on the health and development check each child gets at two and a half years old by a health visitor.
On Radio 4 this morning, Dame Clare said the EYFS framework had to be simpler. She had received 3,300 responses to her request for feedback on the EYFS framework and 2 key findings had emerged:
- people like the EYFS framework for the way it has increased the understanding of childcare workers and parents of how children develop in these crucial early years
- the huge amount of paperwork required to document children's development is far too time consuming
NCA welcome the findings of the review as it will mean far less time spent on paperwork - while still ensuring that all childcare professionals help children develop the key skills that they will need in later life. However, the government has yet to announce what changes will be made as a result of the report and when they will be introduced.
